CVNE (Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana), commonly just called Cune dates back to the 1800's and their Vina Real line has historically been a more Burgundian style of Rioja. Now, Vina Real is a separate winery in Rioja Alavesa and not just a brand belonging to CVNE. Always a pleasure and a good value in the land of Rioja wine, this is a superb wine from a well structured vintage.
"2009 is a powerful vintage with an early harvest, especially in Alavesa, but the wine has very good balance and is developing some complexity in the nose with a touch of spices, raw meat and red fruit. The palate displays some fine-grained tannins, ripe fruit and good acidity in a well-built wine. This should age very well." 92 points Wine Advocate
