Laura Lorenzo is one of Galicia's most passionate and exciting wine makers. Located in the small town of Manzaneda in the Bibei River valley she farms a number of parcels in the neighboring hillsides. She works all biodynamically and all the wines she makes (including those like Portela do Vento which comes from grapes grown by farmers she works with) undergo a natural fermentation.
Named after a pass in the nearby hillsides, Portela do Vento is predominately Mencia. As this has just arrived I would recommend giving it a decant as her wines always show well after some air. It's got wonderful notes of plum, currant and a plush, spicy character. Hints of smoke and a long finish of spiced wildberries make this just delectable.
