Valdespino Palo Cortado Viejo CP (named after the street in downtown Jerez that the original bodega stood for well over 100 years) is from the same single vineyard, Macharnudo that their famed Inocente Fino comes from.Ê Actually wines from the Inocente Fino & Tio Diego Amontillado soleras are selected to go into this palo cortado solera that is then aged for an average of 25 years. This is dry, but has a bit more generousity in the mouthfeel due to the extended time in solera. Focused and beautiful with notes of toasted hazelnuts and walnuts, smoke, mineral, citrus and clove.Ê This has impressive length and is delicious with some sliced jamon or aged Manchego. Or just a sip or two on it's own, maybe with a handful of nuts while reading in the afternoon. . .hhhmmm sounds like a good idea right now.
