1981 was a bit of a sleeper in Rioja. It was quickly overshadowed by 1982, but with time many of the 1981 show better than the following vintage. This is no exception. Soft and elegant with flavors of spiced plum intertwined with woodsy, earthy notes and hints of tobacco smoke and lingering dried plum and spice. This wine still has a long life in front of it, but it is drinking wonderfully at the moment.
