- The organic Tempranillo (100%) grapes hail from family vineyards within the Pago de Ayles, 17 miles southeast of Zaragoza, the stately (and very visit-worthy) capital of the region of Aragon. A mere 50 miles south of Logrono, the heart of the Rioja, the Aragon region is clearly dominated by what the winery calls 'extreme continental climate', meaning cold winters, hot summer days and cold summer nights. Grapes here usually get riper, producing richer, riper wines than in its northern neighbor region.The wine is a gorgeous deep red in the glass. The nose is a super clean, super smooth mix of black cherry, dark chocolate, and black plum stone fruit. Very satisfying. Mouthfeel and flavor are perfectly integrated. On the palate, smooth tannins, a bouquet of red fruit, a hint of blackberry and tobacco absolutely belie the price of this wine. If ever there was a wine deserving a prize for midweek dinner wine, this is it. Smooth and rich, sip after sip, but not overly intense. Simple is beautiful, and we love it!
