Pago de los Capellanes was founded by the Rodero-Villa family in 1996. The 272-acre vineyard in the heart of Ribera del Duero is planted primarily to Tempranillo with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Reserve is made from grapes grown in clay-calcerous soils and aged for 14 months in french oak barrels followed by 22 months in the bottle. Aromas of black cherry, liquorice, smoke and forest floor. Full-bodied on the palate with firm, yet silky tannins. Decant for an hour before serving to let it open up. Delicious.
"Expansive nose of ripe blackberries and cherries with fine oak, then an
impressive balance between the fruit and well crafted, dry tannins on
the full palate. Long finish that's fresh but not tart." 92 points James Suckling
