- At first sight, 5/4 seems rather cryptic of a name for pretty wine. That is, until you understand why the winemakers chose it. This "Clarete" a popular spanish style of reds and whites blended uses 2 parts Cencibel (Tempranillo), 1 part Garnacha, 1 part Airen, 1 part Malvar. Cencibel is a local clone of Tempranillo, thicker skinned than other tempranillo and better suited to withstand the harsh winds of the area. The Garnacha in the area is suave and plummy. Airen and Malvar add tropical notes and levity. All in all, this is a well-conducted orchestra. Each variety lends its own characteristic to this fresh wine - soft tannin, cherry and liquorice from the Tempranillo; white pepper, sandelwood and cassis from the Garnacha; butterscotch, chamomile and thyme from the Malvar; and citrus, bergamot orange, and freshness from the Airen. Naturally whole-cluster fermented, then amphora aged, this is a fun, fresh wine that's perfectly suited to summer time. Chill a bit, serve, and kick back with some 5/4. Sounds good!
