El Maestro Sierra Amontillado 1830 Anticuario Magnum

El Maestro Sierra Amontillado 1830 Anticuario Magnum - The Spanish Table

El Maestro Sierra Amontillado 1830 Anticuario Magnum

Founded in 1830 by a barrel maker, El Maestro Sierra has always been the little guy in the room full of bigger and better known Sherry bodegas. This magnum is a singular wine and will never exist as it is again. Two large 2000L barrels that were built by the original founder held this Amontillado that dates back to the bodega's founding. Small amounts were bottled every year and the wine was refreshed with the next oldest Amontillado in the cellar. But in 2017, the capataz (winemaker) discovered that one of the large barrels had developed a leak and several hundred liters had slowly steeped into the floor of the bodega. She decided to drain the wine and bottle it in only in magnums. 75 were released for sale.

After repairing the leak, the remaining barrel of this Amontillado was blended with the next oldest Amontillado and has sat untouched since then. But this wine as it is in the bottle doesn't exist anymore as the barrel had to be blended with a younger Amontillado (relatively speaking, as its beginning was still in the 1800's as well). But this wine which has traces of wine that date back to 1830 will never be again. So this is not only a sublime and incredibly wonderful bottle of wine, it is one of only a few that are available.
