Izadi is one of winery that you can turn to when in doubt and be comfortable that you'll get a very tasty wine for the money. Their Seleccion is a vineyard selection of 60+ year old grapes (Tempranillo and Graciano) that then ages in barrels for 16 months. This is drinking very well right now. It's got dense, structured dark fruit with baking spice and notes of dried tobacco and cocoa. There is a fresh and mineral cut on the finish which brings some nice focus to the finish. And best part this is typically $25-$30 on release, so we have it for a superb price.
"The 2012 Seleccion is obviously a selection from their best vineyards,
mostly Tempranillo with 20% Graciano aged mostly in French barriques
(75%) for some 16 months. This is officially a 'Reserva'. The wine is
oaky, ripe and concentrated in a style that would please many. Modern,
with plenty of tannins to be rendered by time in bottle. Very good in
its style." 91 points The Wine Advocate Aug. 2016
