In a traditional Valencian kitchen you'll find one of these on the counter. It's a real workhorse, used for pounding herbs, crushing breadcrumbs, beating together a batch of romesco and whipping up creamy Catalan aioli. The striking color marks it as being made in Manises, a small town near Valencia. Super-typical and muy autentico. Measures 4' high and 6" across, with enough capacity to hold a couple of cups.
