Marques de Murrieta is one of the classic producers of Rioja and their Castillo Ygay is always one of the top of the heap.
1968 was widely considered one of the best vintage in Spain throughout the country (the 1968 Vega Sicilia is legendary). What a treat to be able to offer this well aged Rioja. This has a top shoulder fill.
Robert Parker himself reviewed this wine in 1994 (when it was already almost 30 years old) and wrote, "The true glories of Marques de Murrieta are the red wines. The
sensational 1968 Castillo Ygay is an extremely dense, concentrated,
full-bodied wine with loads of flavor." It's definitely softend over the past additional 30 years, but still has wonderful fruit and complexity and is still loaded with flavor.
