These jet black seeds come from a plant also known as "devil in a bush" or " love in a mist". Odd that they couldn't decide if it's an evil or a heavenly plant...

Native to southern Europe, North Africa and South Asia, nigella seeds have a sharp, acidic taste with hints of onion, oregano and black pepper. They are used to flavor breads and in a variety of dishes including a popular chicken Tagine from Marrakech. (Sometimes called "black onion seed", though they are unrelated to onions.)
